GST Monthly Totals
On this page
GST Monthly Totals gives the figures of your GST return for each month of a period on one page: what you bought (inward) and what you sold (outward), each as taxable value, CGST plus SGST, and IGST. Use it to compare months, to see how the tax you paid on purchases compares with the tax you charged on sales, and to find the month to look at in GSTR-3B.
Open the report
Press Alt+9 for GST Reports, then H. The report opens from the first day of the financial year to the working date, with purchases counted by their received date.
Seven months of the sample books. October also holds a sale to a walk-in in another state, a sales return, credit and debit notes, a purchase return and a purchase from a supplier without a GSTIN, added so that every kind of document counts. It is the same October as on the GSTR-3B page.
What it lists
One line for each month that has at least one of the documents below in the period. A month with none is not listed. The report reads the same documents as GSTR-3B:
- Inward (input tax): purchase bills, other purchases, GST debit notes received, less purchase returns and GST credit notes received.
- Outward (output tax): sale bills, other sales, GST debit notes issued, less sales returns and GST credit notes issued.
A line is read from the goods lines of each document and, on sale and purchase bills, the charge lines that carry GST. It does not read receipts, payments, journals or the non-GST credit and debit notes.
Columns
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Month | The month and year. |
| Inward taxable | The taxable value of the month’s inward documents, after discounts and before GST, with purchase returns and credit notes received taken off. |
| Inward GST | The CGST plus the SGST on them. |
| Inward IGST | The IGST on them. |
| Outward taxable | The taxable value of the month’s outward documents, with sales returns and credit notes issued taken off. |
| Outward GST | The CGST plus the SGST on them. |
| Outward IGST | The IGST on them. |
The Totals line adds up the months. The status line gives the number of months, the total inward GST and the total outward GST, each CGST + SGST + IGST: in the picture 3,97,698.38 inward and 4,20,890.55 outward.
Choices
The choices above the list.
| Choice | What it does |
|---|---|
| From, To | The period, inside the financial year. The report opens from the first day of the year to the working date. |
| Purchases by | Received date (the default) puts a purchase bill in the month you received the goods. Invoice date puts it in the month of the supplier’s bill date. Only purchase bills are moved by this choice. |
Every choice is kept in the page address, so Copy link opens the same report again.
How the figures are worked out
- Which month. A document is in the month of its date within the period. A purchase bill’s date is its received date or its invoice date, as chosen in Purchases by. Every other document counts on its posting date: your own documents (a sale, a purchase return, a note you issue) on their own date, and a document you received (a sales return, an other purchase, a note you receive) on the day you received it.
- Taxable value and tax. SimplyERP sums the taxable value, CGST, SGST and IGST saved on each line of the documents, as the bill screen worked them out. It does not calculate the tax again.
- Returns and notes. Purchase returns and GST credit notes received are taken off the inward side. Sales returns and GST credit notes issued are taken off the outward side. Debit notes, and other purchases and other sales, are added to their own side.
- Inward GST and Outward GST are CGST + SGST. IGST is shown apart, for supplies from and to other states.
- Totals add up the months listed, to two decimals.
- Check against GSTR-3B. The figures of a month are those of its GSTR-3B for the whole month: in the October line, inward taxable 6,41,742.86 and outward taxable 5,51,067.79 are the Gross Amt of Input Totals and Output Totals in the GSTR-3B page, inward IGST 11,354.40 is its IGST input and outward IGST 20,089.72 its IGST output. Inward GST 40,616.90 is the CGST 20,308.45 plus the SGST 20,308.45 of input, and outward GST 38,199.64 is 19,099.82 plus 19,099.82.
The first month of the period is counted from the From date and the last month to the To date. In the picture, October has the documents of 1 to 18 October.
Open, print and export
- Enter on a month opens its GSTR-3B for the same month and the same Purchases by choice. If the report period starts or ends inside the month, its GSTR-3B covers only the days of the period: the October line above opens GSTR-3B for 01-10-2026 to 18-10-2026.
- F10 prints the months, under the heading [G S T - MONTH WISE], with the period and whether purchases are counted by received date or invoice date. Its last line is Totals.
- F12 saves it as an Excel workbook.
- Alt+Enter gives the whole window to the list.
Typing the first letters of a month’s name jumps to it. The list is always in month order; it has no sorting or marking.
